Knee Pain After Running – Possible Reasons
If you feel Knee Pain After Running, then there are a few things you can do to relieve your pain. Lets first discuss the reasons why pain might be felt in the knees after a run.
First, you might be running incorrectly or have on the wrong type of shoes. Yes, the type of shoes you wear can cause knee pain after running.
Second, you might not have enough strength in your muscles around your knees for such a strenuous exercise. When you run, the impact felt on your knees can be 3 to 4 times that of your body weight.
Third, you might be running too much. Running everyday for an extended period of time will wear down your joints and eventually cause pain in the knees.
Now that we talked about the reasons why you might be feeling pain in your knees after a run, lets talk about how you can correct this problem by giving you an answer to each of the three reasons.
Knee Pain After Running From Incorrect Running Technique and/or Wrong Running Shoes
This is a fairly common problem found in most cases of knee pain after running. A lot of people run incorrectly. They land on the heel of their foot and that will transfer a lot of weight through your bones and into the knees. To correct this problem, start running on the balls of your feet and the weight will be transferred more through the muscles and less through the bones and joints.
The wrong type of running shoe has the same effect as the incorrect running technique. The right type of running shoe will support the arch of the foot, thereby helping you transfer weight toward the front of the foot instead of the heel.
Knee Pain After Running And Weak Leg Muscles
One way to help stop knee pain after running is to strengthen the legs. The stronger the muscles are around the knees, the more impact the knees can withstand when running. Make sure you incorporate exercises which strengthen the thighs and calves.

- Step Ups
- Hamstring Curls.
Knee Pain After Running And Extensive Running
If you still feel knee pain after running while strengthening your muscles and running in the correct form then, you might be running too much. Take a break from running and let your knees recover for awhile.
There are still plenty of other cardiovascular activities you can do which are low impact exercises. These include swimming and cycling. Sometimes all you need to do to relieve knee pain after running is to take a nice long break.
