Its not often you get a chance to stay over at the second best hotel amongst the top 20 in the world. Needless to say I grabbed the opportunity when it presented itself at the opening of the newly re-vamped Bascule Bar located in the Cape Grace Hotel.
The Bascule Bar is originates from the French word which means “balance” and the name suits it perfectly! When you enter the venue there is a “cellar” type feel yet the outside section is right on the water’s edge surrounded by the most stunning Yachts in the world! I must say the new design is phenomenal!

Consultant team, Design 360, has artfully achieved a contemporary twist on the bar’s interior design, whilst preserving the hotel’s rich Cape heritage and cherished old world charm. Named after the Bascule Bridge at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (the only one of its kind in South Africa), a dramatic portrait of a bascule bridge from the famous Clarke Street Bridge in Chicago, adorns the focus wall of the lounge area. Says Cape Grace Sales & Marketing Director, Philma Gomes “With only about 140 bascule bridges throughout the world, it is fitting to celebrate the uniqueness of the locational design in Bascule bar, our very own masterpiece, which we believe offers guests a perfect balance of relaxed ambience and world class sophistication.”
Beautiful Interior designed by Design 360
The Bascule Bar is not only a whiskey connoisseur’s dream (with more than 500 Whiskey’s from every whiskey producing region in the world) but also a wine and cocktail bar so there is something for everyone!
Bascule Vinothèque invites wine connoisseurs, private collectors and companies to store their wines in private bins of the Vinothèque temperature and humidity-controlled cellar, for ideal maturation
I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel the rooms are really something special and the staff warm and welcoming I would really recommend the Cape Grace to anyone who would like to experience what Cape Luxury is all about!
Beautiful Luxury Room which we had the privilege to stay in
Interesting Fact
A bascule bridge is a type of drawbridge consisting of two counterweighted leaves or spans which pivot upward on a horizontal axis to allow boat traffic to pass underneath. The counterweights help balance each side of the bridge during the upward swing, which assists in the lifting motion. The bascule bridge originated in medieval Europe to help defend castles and towns.

About the Author
Yes I am THAT girl that hopped around on an island in Panama on the first season of survivor South Africa (my claim to fame). Thank goodness I had a modeling career to fall back on because I was left starving and I didn't win the million bucks!
I am anything but ordinary and I have learned to be ok with it. What drives me is the stuff that I love doing, spending time with good friends, learning from extraordinary people, drinking wine, writing, (did I mention drinking delicious wine?) I love traveling, nature, animals, exercise helping others to achieve their goals gives me a kick, I thoroughly enjoy music that moves me and love looking at and taking pictures that speak to me. I stay slim by following a healthy diet of wine and carrying my massive baby around (not sure how he got that big but he is huge, and very cute) - He is my absolute pinnacle out of everything I have done right so far. (I actually have some real weight loss secrets on The Jog Blog) I also run with my two Jack Russell's Jesse and James, James is really, lets call it, "big boned", so I wouldn't say we run marathons but we at least enjoy it thoroughly. Like all South African's I also love the odd South African Braai and grew up barefoot playing on dirt roads.
The biggest goal in my life is to enjoy and savor every moment, to be mindful of each and every person and situation in my life and to be the master of my own mind.
What do I do for a living? I have a bit of digital savvy, write a lot, manage projects and initiatives that help promote brands digitally and love a challenge. I am an avid entrepreneur Sport and Sports-development is close to my heart.
I also proudly endorse Futurelife, Garmin, Adidas Eyewear and Cipla Nutrition.
I help where I can do the best with what I have and give it my 110% I am the Glass-Half-Full girl and thank you for supporting The Jog Blog.
